But Moses persevered, egged on by forebears’ ghosts and belief in cultural singularity,

And Moses insisted he would deliver the Hebrews from their bondage,

And Moses would lead them forth from the burden of slavery,

And they would acclaim his leadership when he delivered them from servitude,

But they didn’t believe him.

And Moses and Aaron recalled famous names that rang down the ages,

Reuben and Simeon, and Levi who lived one hundred and thirty-seven years,

And Gershon and Kohath and Merari and Libni and Shimi and Amram and Izhar and Hebron and Uzziel,

All the way to their father Amram who, in family tradition, had wed his blood aunt,

And their resolve was strengthened.
